Shakshouka – Eggs 🍳in Tomato🍅Sauce Recipe.

Looking for a great alternative to bacon and eggs. We have been cooking Shakshouka for years. Just fry up some spices (chilli powder, coriander, cumin, paprika and whatever else is rolling around in the bottom of the food tub) with some onion and garlic before you add the (tin of) tomatoes. Then poach the eggs in the bubbling juice of deliciousness.

Shakshouka – Eggs in Tomato Sauce Recipe

Shakshouka – Eggs in Tomato Sauce Recipe is a traditional dish from the Middle East and North Africa regions. Delicious one pot wonder dish for all the family to enjoy.

This is such a delicious and wholesome dish. It is a great option for anytime of day, taste amazing when cooked over the coals in a cast iron frying pan. We amp up the spice and chilli mix just because we can.

Would also suggest trying to make some sort of savoury bread like this damper bread cheese bacon and chives to dip in it. Great use of all general ingredients that are staples of any good camp kitchen cooks repertoire.

While not specifically required if you want a perfect Shakshouka get it started on the fire in your camp oven, drop the eggs in, wack on the lid and dump coals on top. Yeah you know the drill. This will ensure it keeps the moisture in and eggs roast on top.

For those of you with an interest in food origin, Shakshouka is of Yemen origin and has transversed much of northern Africa before being taken up by the Israeli’s who spread it through out the world. You may also see it spelt, shakshuka or chakchouka  as the missus calls it, kah ka kasploonka. Wikipedia will give you a bit of a rundown see Wikipedia Shakshouka.
