Mud Crab Madness

Check out this Mud Crab Madness. These young fella’s out hunting muddies with their bare hands. I can feel a Singapore Chilli Crab coming on or a finger coming off. I’m waiting for the episode where the croc takes a snap at em. But seriously these young fellas have talent and I can tell you, if they are in need of some pocket money, there are plenty of people around who would be keen to chip in.

What next after this Mud Crab Madness

Now I cant knock these lads too much because they have bigger balls than me, but I’m not going to follow Mud Crab Madness when it comes to cooking. No doubt some will argue, but with a love of Asian food, I would say there is only one thing to do with these muddies. Cook Chilli Mud Crab using a Camp Oven.

That said on of my favorite recipes is black pepper crab. Rather than a camp oven we invested in a wok burner. The type that is only to be used outdoors and doubles as a jet engine on an F-19. If you want dinner in a hurry these bad boys are the way to do.

More information about muddies

Perhaps a less adventurous and safer way of catching mud crabs is with a dilly or crab pot. These are relatively inexpensive but can take up a fair wack of room in your kit. That said we never head north of Brisbane to go camping without a crab trap and half a dead cat.

When you land yourself a muddy you will need to flick it over and check out its flap. If it has a rounded if it is rounded, for carrying eggs, then it is female and your are not allowed to keep it. Males have a small triangle, you can keep them as long as they the minimum size.

For further information about legal limits and identifying the gender of your muddies check out the Queensland Fisheries Website.
